Scrap Fever Show & Tell

Here are the Show & Tell quilts from our March 1st meeting. Everyone has been very busy and productive.
Bonnie made this tricky pieced top. Wonderfully colorful.
Carolyn shows her Spice Train quilt.
Can't remember who made this....sorry. It is made from one Bali Pops. Way cool!!
Carole D. made this one for a lucky grandchild. The scrappy strips were pieced on interfacing as a base.
That's not a Sun Bonnet Sue, its a Clown Hat.
Louise made this easy 3 yard quilt.

Ruby F. shows her Spice Train quilt. Our project from last year.
The tiny orange outline really added to the quilt. She also added tiny white corner blocks and cording to the binding. Very stunning.
Claire V. made this doggy quilt. The ears are three dimensional and are tacked in place. Buttons are used for the eyes and nose.
John made this quilt for little neighbor Cullen. Cullen told John that his favorite color is pink so there is pink stripe on the back. Cullen's mother said he has a different favorite color everyday....don't we all?
John's breathtaking Diamonds in the Rough quilt made from Asian fabrics with gold in the prints.
Close up of John's Diamond in the Rough. The picture does not do it justice. He used gold thread for the machine quilting and it is just gorgeous.

John also made this stunning Storm at Sea quilt from Indigo Dyed fabric. Apparently Indigo has a wonder scent but it is washed away when the fabric is prewashed. The indigo dyed fabric is quite rough and stiff but really softened up after washing.

Claire V. made this top from a "layer cake" of 10 inch fabrics.
Norine made this Farmer's Wife quilt. It is based on a book. The blocks are 6 inches. Very similar to the Dear Jane quilts but the blocks are larger and more easily drafted and pieced. It only took Norine two months to make this!!!! Doesn't she make you feel unproductive? Norine gets the OVER ACHIEVER AWARD!!!

Ruby made some scrap blocks with gentle pastel fabrics.

We had a very deep conversation about thread after our show and tell. Everyone seems to use cotton thread only although some confessed to using up the blends to get rid of them. One thing many of us learned at a recent guild meeting is that the type of thread you use affects your machine. Some thread is very linty and not good for the machine. So, we have always thought about thread with the product in mind, now we need to keep our tools in mind too.
