Yesterday I hosted my 2nd Annual 50th Birthday Party. I had a big (belated) party last February for my 50th Birthday and it was so fun, I had to do it again. Like last year, I didn't want gifts and instead used the party as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity Lansing. I have spent the last few months getting my house ready for the big party and the last few days cooking, baking and setting all in place for an enjoyable time. I was so pleased at the turnout and I want to thank everyone who attended and helped out in supporting Habitat and all the work it does toward eliminating substandard housing in the Lansing area.
My Mom, Mike, Jim & Wendy and sons Carl, John, Sam and Ben were able to attend and got to meet all my friends. Mike brought his laptop and spent time showing us his pictures from Zambia and teaching us all about the eye surgeries they accomplished on his recent trip. We also got to see great pictures of Africa including happy children, up close pictures of animals, and Victoria Falls.
Several Habitat board members and staff attended including: Julie and Nate, Heather and Nick, Jaqui, Susan, Charlie and his wife, Bob P., Erica and Frank, Matt and his wife and daughter. Judy and Phyllis both Habitat supporters and volunteers also came and had a good time. My long time friends, Steve (since sixth grade), Rex and Clarisa stopped by as did Marty, my friend, the builder, and my neighbor, Janet. My former coworker Carol R stopped by and ran into Jackie whom she knew from her past career.
My quilting friends Lisa, Ruth D., Linda, Ruth F., Terry and John, Jackie Bu, Carol Sc, Daisy, Carol Se, John P, Julia, and Dorothy all stopped by to enjoy the festivities. Lisa, Linda and Ruth helped me keep the food and beverages well stocked. John P even gave a tour of my quilting room. Boy am I glad I did lots of cleaning!!
Bob, who I know through Habitat, and his partner Mark came and enjoyed the Africa pictures and relaxing with Mike and I after many of the other guests had left. Mark also helped me with some kitchen clean up.
The party was lively and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The first guest/helper arrived about 2:30 pm and the last guests left at 2:30 am so all in all it was a long fun party. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos, so I am posting a few pictures from last years party. I guess I was having too much fun talking to friends and making introductions to take photos.
The total raised for Habitat for Humanity Lansing was $1,246. I understand there were other donations sent via mail and made online too. I will let you know the grand total in a future post.
If you couldn't make it to the party but still want to send a donation, please send a check to: Habitat for Humanity Lansing, 1941 Benjamin Drive, Lansing, MI 48906 or make an online donation at http://www.habitatlansing.org/. Be sure to indicate "Cindy's Party".
