Here Comes the Rain Again/Habitat Quilt

It has rained and rained and rained for more than 24 hours straight. It has nothing to do with hurricane IKE yet. I know we needed rain but this is a little much. They have some flood warnings out in our area. There are deep puddles in the streets and parking lots and the grass is so wonderfully green. Well, most of it is green, some of it is pretty dead and is merely coming back to life. Looks like I won't be working in the gardens this weekend.

My Mom got an MRI yesterday but no contact from the doctor as to the diagnosis. Her shoulder is swollen, very painful and she is therefore without the use of her right arm. I stopped by to do some housework and other things that take two arms and I brought her a sling for her arm. I am not sure it helps much. I think some serious treatment is going to be needed. How frustrating for her. She has a new heart valve, was starting to feel better after almost 2 years of serious illness, a new car and now an injury to the shoulder. Getting old is not fun I have learned.

I did have time to do some more piecing on the "Habitat Houses" quilt.
I added the additional sky above the first row of houses, then I added the orange inner border and the darker blue outer border. This is getting too big for me to machine quilt, so I might have it quilted by a long arm quilter.
I have one more tree block that was too small and it will become the label on the back of the quilt.
The house and tree blocks were made by the members of a block exchange group. We meet the fourth Monday at Ruth's. We have been exchanging blocks as a group for about 18 years. What do you think of "Habitat Houses"??

I also had the fun of pumping gas into my car at $4.25 a gallon. Yikes.

Tonight Sophie, Ruth, Tish and I went to see the new Coen brothers film, Burn After Reading. It was hilarious, grossly bloody at times, and had the most bizarre story line, but I loved it. The CIA did not come out looking very good in the film but that's nothing new. The scenes with the CIA staff were actually some of the funniest. However, the most funny parts have been in all the advertisements and previews so they were not a surprise. Brad Pitt played a real dip head and Clooney, well, he was a perfectly wonderful creep. The theatre was packed. I haven't seen that happen in a long time. It could have been the rain. Here comes the rain again. Who'll stop the rain?

The Habitat Houses quilt is absolutely stunning. I esp. like your placement of the trees - you are a true artist!

I echo the first two comments --- it looks terrific and will be a wonderful addition to the Habitat office. Sorry about your Mom's shoulder --- it is especially discouraging, since she was starting to feel, and look like she felt better.
