Durand Quilt Show - Go Green!!!!

Lisa and I traveled to Durand for their annual quilt show on Saturday. I have never been to the show before but I had heard great things about the past shows. We left town as tons of people were heading to East Lansing for the big football game between MSU and U of M. The weather was not the best, lots of big huge dark clouds in the sky and scattered rain. It was a perfect day to head to a quilt show. We stopped at the Michigan Railroad Museum at the Train Depot to see a display of antique quilts and tops. They were very interesting. Next we headed to the big show at the Methodist Church which was just outside of town in what looked like a former corn field. The venue was so wonderfully decorated for autumn with arrangements everywhere including the bathrooms. We saw some really great quilts especially applique quilts. I was really happy to see an old friend, Loyola. I used to work with her son and she used to belong to our quilt guild. She has two new knees and is staying closer to home now but is still quilting and recently started machine quilting with a long arm. It was nice to catch up with her and hear all about her family. She is now a great-grandmother and she says it sounds even better when she says she is the mother of a grandfather.
Here are some of the quilts on display at the Durand Quilt Show:

Mary Warner Stone made this one, she designs applique patterns.

I love the setting on this one.
Great colors, love the batiks.

Dan Burke made this one...its so beautiful.
Color ideas for my New York Beauty.....someday.

I love this pattern.....next block exchange pattern?

Ideas for using Kaffe Fassett fabric.

Great sashing for this beautiful applique quilt.

Great way to use large print fabrics, as in Kaffe Fassett.
We shopped the vendors and got some fat quarters at $1 each. What a deal!!!! The rest of the day was spent with Terri and Jackson and Madeline at my Mom's. Jackson and Maddie wore their MSU clothes even though Jackson claims he is a Michigan fan. My sister said that Grandma Dee wouldn't let him in her house if he wasn't wearing his green and white. Maddie is getting so tall. She liked the new clothes I bought for her upcoming birthday, she'll be 2 on October 18th and she even walked around in the sun dress that is much too long. Next summer maybe it will fit. Jim and Wendy stopped over after the game as did Mike. I picked Rodney up after the game and it was fun seeing all the smiling Spartan fans on campus. Rodney is a Wolverine fan, but I didn't rub it in too much. Apparently, it was a very exciting game..overtime and all. I'm glad that MSU won. We need good news these days.
The weather on Sunday was much more sunny so I took advantage of the rainless day and did more garden clean up. Two more bags full of perennials. Many more to go and then there are the leaves..........

Cindy, I've gone to the Durand show in the past -- great show. I, too, had a U of M grad in my house for the game. Tim & Dusty came over to put my patio furniture away and to cut the seeds off all my Rose of Sharon in my rock garden. I did it all myself last year but wasn't allowed this year. Great pictures!
