Today is the third Thursday of the month and every third Thursday is the meeting of the Capital City Quilt Guild. We meet at a church very near my neighborhood but quilters from many surrounding cities are members. Not all 250+ members attend each meeting but a large number of them are at most of the meetings. This is our 24th anniversary. I have been in the guild since the beginning. We always have show and tell and here is an example of the quilts that were shown tonight.

Irene showed this small quilt made by Lisa for Irene's birthday.

A close-up of Irene's birthday quilt.

If you recall my post from May 12th, I mentioned that Jan had a quilt at the Charm Group meeting but I failed to get a picture. Well, here it is. This is a close-up of the border. More on the border at the next picture.

Here is a full picture of Jan's star quilt made with only striped fabric. She announced to the guild that the quilt spoke to her, as her quilts often do, and this one advised her that she needed to add borders. She had to design the border herself. The leaves are made with striped fabrics. Jan did machine applique and machine quilting on this quilt. A real beauty as always from Jan. We hope those quilts keep talking to her .

My friend Julia is a new quilter. She showed me her current quilt project which is a wallhanging for her office. She purchased all the fabrics in Shipshewana, Indiana on a trip with Char and Fred. Lovely color combo, Julia. Welcome to the world of quilting. Don't say we didn't warn you!!!
It was a cool spring evening in Lansing. When we left the meeting there was a beautiful sky and sunset. Pictures never capture the true beauty but here it is anyway.
As usual, a few of us quilters stopped at the local coffee shop to gab after our meeting. Tonight it was Jan, Lisa, Irene, Julia and me. We talked about snakes, centipedes, spiders, rodents and pretty much everything but quilts.

I guess you did talk about everything creepy and crawly. Thanks for the pics --- they are always an inspiration --- and, thanks, for inviting me to join the guild --- lo, those 23 years ago!...and, message to Julia --- you're gonna love this hobby/addiction!
I saw that sky from my deck - it looked like a forest fire was to the west.........
The sky was beautiful last night. I saw it when I got home from yet another very long, all-day trip to and from Traverse City. I was sorry to miss Guild and camaraderie.
