I finally made it the Great Lakes Folk Festival today!!! At the M.A.C. stage I met up with Ruth, Carol Se, and Lisa and we saw Revillons! a group of musicians from Quebec. Their music genre is called Quebecois. They sang in French and played great music. It was very danceable too. From that stage I headed to the City Hall stage to see French Connections. It was a combo of two or three people from three different bands that all have musical roots from French Canada: Quebecois, Acadian, and Cajun. These are some of my favorite folk music types. I would have to add Cape Breton fiddle as well. Luckily the City Hall stage had a covered tent because the sky opened up and rained. Not too hard, but enough to get everything wet. The music played by the musicians was fantastic and no one wanted to leave the tent event though the rain had pretty much stopped. I ventured on to the Dance stage to see Jeffrey Broussard & The Creole Cowboys. Fantastic!! They play Zydeco another danceable type of music and it has Cajun roots. It was fun and lively, one of my favorites.
I didn't want to miss seeing my friend Anshu at the Henna Tattoo tent so I headed over to Valley Court. Anshu is from India and she teaches this folk art, by day she helps handle the budget for the State of Michigan.
The weather got cool and the sky got darker and threatening looking so I headed home early. I was thankful to see a few of the groups I wanted to see and greatly disappointed that I did not get to enjoy all the music I had hoped to hear. Oh well, there is always next year.
This evening I have been watching the Beijing Olympics. I got to see Dara Torres and her teammates win a gold medal in the medley last night and I hope to watch more of the women's and men's swimming tonight.
Well here are more pictures from NQA in Columbus in 2007. Enjoy!

Didn't read yesterday, so didn't know about your Mom. Hope she is doing better --- we had many opportunities to spend time in the ER --- it is exhausting. ...and, unfortunately, as we age, it takes us longer to recover. At least you had a little time at the GLFF.
Glad your mom is better.
See you this evening at Daisy's - and your tatoo.......
