Columbus Here We Come

We are on our way to Columbus. Linda is in the cockpit and I am the navigator, although Linda really doesn't need one. We will stop to have a picnic lunch in the Toledo area and then head to Columbus. We will arrive in time to relax in our room and get ready to attend the opening dinner program followed by the Sneak Peak at the show and more importantly the VENDORS!!!! I am going to try very hard not to buy very much fabric. I have such a large stash now that I don't think I really know what I have and what I don't have. When this happens, I risk the chance of buying more of what I don't need. I will concentrate on patterns, books, and other trinkets. Wish me luck on keeping my pledge. I just hope I don't get too tempted by fabric that might be perfect for a big girl quilt for Madeline or Jessica.

This is an update to the earlier post:

Well we arrived safely at the Red Roof Inn in Columbus. The trip down was uneventful except that we stopped to have a picnic lunch at an Ohio rest stop near Bowling Green. The weather was cool and the sky was cloudy. Very good weather for traveling. I spent much of my time hand piecing some green and purplish oriental fabrics in the drunkard's path pattern. My favorite pattern.
Our room was nice and we were on the 5th floor and got to look out over the city. The room was quiet and we didn't ever hear any other guests although we met other quilters who were staying at the Red Roof Inn. Those tall bottles of "cheap" wine on the bedside table were not mine and only one was empty at the end of our stay.
A view of downtown Columbus as we walked to the convention center on our way to the preview dinner Wednesday evening. The meal was delicious and we sat with some friendly quilters. I sat with the former owner of the quilt shop in Monroe and Linda sat next to a quilt teacher she had many years ago.

The benefit of the preview dinner is getting into the show and vendors the night before the official opening of the show. We opted to head straight for the vendors and I managed to break my vow of buying no fabric. One look at the booth of Kaffe Fassett fabric and I was a goner. I spent about one quarter of my spending money on Kaffe fabric. I have tons at home but that didn't stop me. I did find one Kaffe piece that will become a dress and/or top for Madeline. I also could not resist more hand dyed fabric and enjoyed discussing dyeing techniques with the vendor. She dyes with rust. That was interesting and gives a goldish color to the fabric.

We only glanced at the quilts so I will give you a sneak peak too.

This was made from batiks and was quite similar to the Journal quilt that Linda made a few years ago. Remember "One A Day"?
A close up.

Close up of the quiting.
Andy Warhol inspired.
This was very colorful and it really caught my eye.
Close up. It was fused and included silks and cottons.

The label.

Cindy,

This is Martti. I don't know if you are going to read this while in Columbus, but just in case... My mom would like to know if you could pick up a sewing machine felting adadpter from the Crawford Designs booth. After we got home from the show, she decided she really wanted one.

I noticed the wine in the hotel room - did you drink all that?
