Faces and People in Quilts

It was another gorgeous summer day here in Lansing. The sky was blue and the sun was hot. I love summer days like this so I don't know why I am feeling so down. I have been thinking about Mark a lot lately and I really miss him. Maybe its seeing couples everywhere, maybe its just the time of year. I hope it passes soon.
After the Habitat for Humanity Lansing board meeting I met Lisa and Cubby at the Eastwood Towne Center to listen to the blues band "Root Doctor". Cubby got a little restless and so Lisa had to stroll around with him. I met up with them during the intermission. They were trying on shoes at Dick's Sporting Goods. I have never been in a "Dick's" before. It is across the towne center from "Chester's Nuts" another strangely named store.

My friend John S. met up with us after the intermission. It was getting to be Cubby's bedtime so he and Lisa headed for home. John and I stayed until the end of the concert. It was good to see John again and we hope to see some of the other Tuesday concerts at Eastwood in July.

Here are more quilts from the NQA show in Columbus. These quilts all depict people or faces.
Masked.
Inspired by Picasso?
Wonderful use of fabrics for shading.
Looks so real in person.
Up close.
Based on a picture.
He had a dream.
I just love the unique use of fabrics for the shading on this wonderful quilt.
Quite painterly.

This one had wonderful quilting and the faces were so perfectly drawn.
Up close.
This is a journal quilt and appeared in the Chicago International show in 2007. It is actually nine separate small quilts.
Up close.
What an innocent face. Her hair is made of thread and up close it looks real.
This one was also in Chicago this year.
Wonderful use of fabrics.
Shadows of people in red.
This was inspired by some defective thread that the manufacturer would not refund because the quilter did not save her receipt. It seems extreme to make a quilt to deal with your frustrations, but it was very well done and certainly unique.
Up close.
This was very well done with applique and machine quilting. An award winner.
Up close.
Another up close.
Although this may not look like a person, the quilter thinks otherwise. See the label in the next picture.
All pet owners can relate to this message. Inside is a person.
I am praying for a brighter day tomorrow.
